I am planning a pregnancy — how long after surgery can I get pregnant?

Rhinoplasty does not prevent pregnancy; however, for the safety of both mother and baby, we recommend waiting at least 6 months, preferably 12 months between surgery and pregnancy.

💊

Medication Safety: Some of the painkillers, antibiotics and other medications used after surgery may have teratogenic effects in the first trimester of pregnancy. It is safer to become pregnant once they have been completely cleared from the body.

Healing Process: After surgery, the body devotes significant resources to healing. A pregnancy during the same period competes with this process and can negatively affect both healing and the course of the pregnancy.

🌡️

Hormonal Changes: The increased swelling (edema) and changes in blood circulation during pregnancy can affect the healing of the nose. For the result to become clear, it is preferable that the body is not under stress.

If Pregnancy Occurs: If an unexpected pregnancy occurs within 6 months after surgery, do not panic; but inform both your surgeon and your obstetrician-gynecologist as soon as possible. Share the list of medications you are taking with both doctors.

Surgery While Breastfeeding: Breastfeeding is not an obstacle to surgery. However, there is no breastfeeding for the first 24 hours after anesthesia; the milk is pumped and discarded, after which breastfeeding continues (breastfeeding mothers and surgery).
