How can I communicate my expectations to my surgeon correctly?

For a successful rhinoplasty, there is one more thing as important as surgical technique: clear communication between patient and surgeon. If you cannot communicate your expectations accurately, even a technically perfect operation may leave you disappointed.

Bring reference photos — but the right ones. Choose examples of people whose facial structure (skin thickness, bone proportions) is similar to yours. A reference taken from a completely different face does not offer a realistic goal.

🚫

Do not say "a celebrity nose" — say "a nose that suits my face." A celebrity's nose is a result specific to that person's facial anatomy. The same nose will look very different on your face.

📝

Also say what you do not want. Statements such as "I don't want it to look obviously operated on" or "I want it to stay natural for me" are the most valuable input for guiding your surgeon.

📩

Send photos of noses you like. These photos are added to your file and evaluated together when your surgical plan is being made. They are not an order but a way of describing the style you like (sending photos).

📋

Come to your consultation prepared. List your priorities (bridge, tip, nostril wings, angle, etc.) in writing. They may not come to mind during the conversation; a written note will guide you.

A common mistake: Hesitating to ask questions during the consultation. If your surgeon does not answer a question in as much detail as you expected, ask again. No point should be left unclear.

For a satisfying result, your expectations and anatomical reality need to match. The most important tool for achieving this is an open and honest consultation before surgery.
